I’ve put together a design board featuring neutral-colored items that will blend seamlessly with anyone’s decor. Let’s turn your outdoor space into an extension of your home. Who says your living room has to have all the fun? It’s time to give your outdoor sitting area the attention it deserves. Comfort is the key.
Imagine sitting on plush cushioned furniture with a good book and drink in your hand. Strategically placing furniture is important in creating an intimate outdoor living space. My design board features a sofa and chair combination by Four Hands that I absolutely love! It comes in two colors-Stone Grey and Washed Brown. The neutral weather-resistant cushions will stand up to the rainy summer afternoons.
Add pops of color to the monochromatic furniture with outdoor accent throw pillows. I chose these navy 18”x18” bold geometrical patterned pillows to contrast the neutral furniture. They soften the straight lines of the sofa and chairs and will add support for your back.
I suggest this all-weather wicker stool for additional seating or a place to prop up your feet. Its soft round shape and vintage white finish add a casual feel to the elegant look of the seating area.

In keeping with the neutral colors, our design board features an ivory geometrical patterned rug. To me, rugs add a touch of personality and create a welcoming atmosphere. The earthy-colored rug ties the entire outdoor space together and adds a layer of softness and warmth.
No outdoor area is complete without an element of entertainment. If you don’t have a lot of outdoor space to add a dining table, this stylish bar cart is perfect for serving your guests drinks and snacks. I picked a bar cart with wheels so that it can be easily moved around to accommodate your entertaining area; beautiful and functional. Add some decorative glassware to the mobile bar, creating a focal point for your entertaining space.
The concrete drum coffee table is a great choice for outdoors. It's sturdy and durable, so it will last for many years. I chose a coordinating concrete side table to be placed next to the sofa for additional serving areas. The concrete tables balance the softness of the cushions and rugs. A tray with candles or fresh flowers on the coffee table will add to the inviting atmosphere.

Nature and Accessories
Add a bit of refreshing nature to your outdoor living space. If you don’t have a green thumb, this faux palm plant and Calla Lily accent plant will add a tropical feel to the area. Place plants strategically around your seating area and on the bar car to fill your space with color and freshness. If possible, add hanging plants or creeping vines to create some visual interest and give the appearance of a larger area.
Want to add a little romantic ambiance to the sitting area? I love these lanterns. They can be placed anywhere. You can use flameless candles or real ones, whichever you prefer. Solar string lights are also nice for creating a cozy area.

Seasonal Switch-Ups
Keep things exciting by updating your outdoor decor with the changing seasons. Change out your accessories, pillows, and accent pieces to coordinate with the colors of the seasons. Light and airy floral patterns, pastel cushions, and fresh flowers for the spring. For summer months, brighten things up with bold and energetic patterns and lots of colors in throw pillows, rugs, and some tropical accessories. As it starts to get cooler and the leaves change colors, bring in warm-toned cushions, textured throws, and accessories in the fall color scheme. For winter seasons, add a firepit or outdoor heater and warmer and cozier textures and colors for the holidays.
Envision the combination of style, comfort, and functionality coming together to create your ultimate outdoor living space. From the foundation of the neutral sofa, chairs, and rug to the pops of color with navy throw pillows, every piece contributes to the beautiful oasis you can create. The addition of greenery and accessories adds to the elegance of the outdoor living area.
