2024 HOME DECOR TRENDS: INCORPORATING THESE TRENDS INTO YOUR HOME DECOR.

A lot of changes are made in the new year, and this is true with interior design and decorating as well. A new year is the perfect time to refresh your home and find some decorating trends that reflect your personality and style.  These trends focus on creating a calm and balanced space. This post is about interior design and decorating trends and how to incorporate them into your home.

The Color Palette

This year’s color palette will be earthy tones, which include chocolate brown, orange, mustard yellow, terracotta, and coral, with deep green and blue accents. Warm tones will replace cool ones.  These nature-inspired hues will give your home a feel of warmth and richness.    These colors are versatile and will complement any design style.  Colors are important in the sense that they inspire different feelings.  This palette makes me think of being outside in autumn with the leaves changing and the weather cooling.  They give a calming and cozy feeling.  The earth tones are a perfect backdrop for bold accent colors.

If you’re interested in incorporating these colors into your decor, start with one of the neutral tones, like brown or beige, for a new piece of furniture, such as a sofa or barrel chair. Then, add throw pillows in shades of blue or green to accent the furniture. Bring in greenery and indoor plants in terracotta pots to add the feeling of nature. You can paint your home office terracotta or coral to brighten the room and give it a fresh feeling.

Blue will never go out of style. It is a feel-good color that everyone can relate to. It gives a feeling of tranquillity; it makes me think of the sky or the water at the beach. If you’re looking for a vibrant blue, pick one with a purple tint to it. Teals and aqua hues will also be popular in 2024.

Materials, Textures, and Patterns

Ceramic terracotta and natural stone tiles, like marble and travertine, are going to be popular for flooring and walls. A lot of the tiles will be laid in herringbone and checkerboard patterns.  These geometrical patterns will add dimension to your walls and floors.  If you don’t want this trend to be a permanent fixture in your home, try adding a rug with a geometrical pattern instead.  Stacked tiles in vertical or horizontal patterns will replace the look of traditional brick-laid subway tiles.  Keep this in mind if you are picking out tile for your backsplash or shower walls.  This will be a timeless look that will last a long time.

You will see more indoor and outdoor furniture made from organic materials like wicker and rattan.  Create a peaceful and calming effect by bringing nature inside. Add greenery, live plants, and wooden accents to your rooms.  Furniture made from wood, stone, rattan, and leather can enhance the earthy feel.  Consider wooden coffee tables, stone countertops, or leather upholstery.

Mixing metals like aluminium, silver, copper, and brass with materials like wood and textiles will add depth to your spaces.

Classic fabrics like velvet, leather, linen and cotton will be used on furniture, window treatments and bedding. A velvet headboard would create a dramatic and impactful focal point in your bedroom and make the room feel more cozy.  The soft, nubby textured fabric boucle will continue to gain popularity in furniture, throw pillows and blankets. Boucle fabric is a great way to add some texture to your rooms.  Consider a rug made from jute or wool to add dimension to your flooring and warmth for your feet.

Wallpaper is back, especially on the ceilings. Wallpaper is a great way to add color, texture, and personality to your walls or ceilings.  Botanical patterns, like florals and plants, are gaining popularity in wallpaper. These patterns can add a feeling of calmness to your room.

Shapes: Arches and Curves

The architecture of homes is going to change in the next year.  Rounded shapes and curves will take the place of straight lines in walls, windows, furniture, and accent pieces.  These shapes are more inviting than the coldness of sleek, straight lines.  Arched mirrors will replace linear ones.  Arches and curves give the appearance of sophistication.  They can create a dramatic entrance into a room or define a space.  A barrelled ceiling on a front porch or walkway would definitely be eye-catching.

Alcoves, recessed spaces within larger areas, give a cozy dimension to a room.  You can add shelves to an alcove; now you have a functional bookcase.

Scalloped and fluted details on furniture, upholstery pieces, and cabinetry are great ways to add texture and visual interest to your home.  Curved sofas and chairs are more comfortable to sit in than the straight-back ones.  Pair a round or oval coffee table with your sofa for an inviting sitting area.

Furniture, Lighting, and Accent Pieces

Unique, functional, and decorative are the characteristics of furnishings in the new year.  Vintage, handmade and hand-carved furniture and hand-blown glass are the perfect statement pieces for your home.  We will see more wall and floor lamps as well as large pendant lights.  Monochromatic table lamps will allow your hand-carved furniture to be the focus of your room.  Use warm-toned light bulbs instead of bright white light bulbs to create a soft and inviting ambiance.  Change out any white or gray lamp shades for beige or taupe ones.

Purchase artwork and hand-painted ceramics from local artists.  Find something that you really connect with and show your own style.  Nature-inspired paintings, earth-toned ceramics, and sculptures would be beautiful additions to any room.

When buying furniture, think of sustainability rather than mass production.  It’s better to invest in quality pieces that will last longer than cheap furniture that won’t.  Sustainable furnishings are becoming more available in the design world, enabling you to be environmentally conscious while decorating your space.  If you are feeling bold, look for a dark blue or green piece of furniture to add a focal point to your room.

Natural stone dining and coffee tables are becoming popular.  The stone tables are timeless because of their beauty and durability. This makes stone tables stylish and practical pieces of furniture. Furniture and accent pieces are taking on a fun look. Oversized and exaggerated in proportions and styles. Express your design style and personality with colors and patterns.

Don’t feel like you have to redecorate your entire house to keep up with the trends.  Find one or two decorating trends that you like and try them out.  Incorporate some of these decorating ideas and let your home show your style! Have fun decorating!
