Our Favorite Shower Floor Tile Trends
There are so many tile shower floor designs, but today we will focus on three of our favorites: Minimalism, Transitional, and Americana. We will give you ideas to transform your bathroom into one of your favorite rooms in your home. Shower floors must be durable and easy to clean, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be beautiful. This post is all about shower floor tile trends.
Shower Floor Tile: Minimalism
Minimalism-by definition: Minimalism design style uses simple lines that clearly describe the function of the space or the object. It is about prioritizing the essentials. Minimalism does not mean style is compromised. Minimalism is all about proportions and materials and can be complex.
Some popular minimalism tile colors for the shower floor are Carrara white, soothing grays, transparent or opaque, brown, beige, salmon, and black. The minimalist tile colors lean towards providing a clean look. Popular minimalism tile patterns are hexagon, basketweave, geometric, square, rectangle (brick-like), and herringbone. These shower floor tile patterns add a unique shape, visual interest, and a vintage flair to the shower floor space. For instance, combine gray, black, and bright white hexagon mosaic tiles if you want your shower floor to appear dimensional. Have them laid in a geometrical pattern, and watch your shower floor come to life. The minimalist shower floor tile would be monochrome with the same color grout with nearly invisible grout lines. Bright white is an easy way to make your shower floor feel elegant. However, if you want to be bold, I suggest using contrasting grout to make the shower floor pop with an accent of color. Going bold can be tricky, but it can create a beautiful balance of coloration on your shower floor and make it the prime focal feature of the bathroom. Feel free to add a dash of mid-century modern design with colorful artistic rectangular tiles. If you want to add a glamorous vibe to your shower floor, you might want to try white and gray rectangular marble tiles laid in a herringbone pattern. Marble is a popular minimalist material for tiles. It conveys a sense of calmness and is a timeless material creating an elegant ambience. Marble is also a naturally water-resistant tile that is easy to clean.
Shower Floor Tile: Transitional
Transitional-by definition: Transitional design shifts through time. It incorporates touches of the traditional timeless look with the sleek lines of the contemporary style. Merging these two styles will give you the best of both worlds. The warm feeling of the traditional style provides a nice balance with the orderly sense of the contemporary style. The aesthetic is more current than retro while blending classic elements of design that exude relaxation. Comfort is the key to transitional spaces. Some popular transitional tile colors are gray, white, brown, taupe, green, and blue. Tile layout patterns and themes most commonly used in shower floors are staggered, checkerboard, linear, mosaics, pebbles, rocks, and weathered wood-look tiles. For a more modern look, lay rectangular tiles on the shower floor in a herringbone pattern to add extra detail while keeping with the transitional style. By installing tiles in a design, you invite drama into the shower floor and provide texture that helps prevent falls from occurring . Glass mosaics reflect light, making the shower look brighter and more spacious. The most used materials for transitional shower flooring are porcelain, stone, and ceramic tiles. The natural stone, like slate flooring, gives a refreshing spa-like feel. Also, matching the grout color with the tile color will add to the serene spa feeling of calmness. In regards to the grout, you want to keep the grout lines thin to enhance the clean contemporary look and bring a tranquil vibe to the floor.
Furthermore, consider a curbless shower floor in keeping with the transitional design look. This resort-like feature adds an elegant feel to the shower floor. Also, experiment with mixing tile colors and patterns to create your unique shower floor. For example, you can install pebbles on the floor and add a border of colored mosaics to blend the styles.

Shower Floor Tile: Americana
Americana-by By definition, the Americana design approach focuses on America’s cultural heritage, history, and geography. It is described as classic and timeless because it touches on the nostalgic aspect of the American spirit. Patriotism, values, and ideals are essential in this design trend. Vintage elements give this style a historical touch. This design technique resonates with the era of hard work and rustic living and gives you the freedom to get creative! Americana design is a melting pot of style, just like the country that inspires it.
In applying the Americana design style to your shower, color can significantly impact the shower floor. Some popular Americana colors are dusty red, terracotta, cream or off-white, and faded blues and browns. The most commonly used tile patterns are brick, picturesque, abstract, chevron, and symbolic. Flooring with texture or roughness will also bring in the countryside Americana feel. The wood-look tile “shiplap” is also a good representation of this design style. “Shiplap” tiles will enhance the warm farmhouse and cottage feel of the Americana style. Another idea for the shower floor is a fun checkerboard design. You could get creative with any color combination or do a classic look with black and white tiles. Soft blue and white tiles laid in a chevron pattern on the floor remind me of the water at the beach and give a soothing feel. Because it's flooring, the shower floor tends to be overlooked when decorating. Bringing color and pattern in with wallpaper can add character. The dramatic design will make the shower floor the focal point.
Whatever design style you choose for your shower floor tile, always keep it in mind safety. Select a slip-resistant tile to prevent falls. Waterproof tiles are waterproof membranes to protect the construction underneath. Consider the floor tiles' beauty and functionality. This post was all about favorite shower floor tile trends.
