9 CREATIVE DECORATING IDEAS FOR ADDING YOUR UNIQUE STYLE TO YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE DECOR

Every year, I say that I am only decorating one Christmas tree this time, but I can’t ever decide which theme or color to decorate the tree, so the inevitable happens, and I end up decorating at least THREE different themed Christmas trees.  This got me thinking that maybe someone else might want to try something different this year with their Christmas tree, so I’m posting ideas for adding your unique style to your Christmas tree decor.

How To Decorate Your Christmas Tree So It Coordinates With Your Home’s Design and Decorating Style.

Is your favorite decorating style Modern?

Choose a slim white or silver artificial Christmas tree.  Pick modern Christmas tree ornaments that are geometrically shaped in metallic or glass finishes.  Limit the number of colors and objects when you decorate the ultra-modern Christmas tree. Use monochromatic decorations, staying with the modern decorating style, such as black, silver, or white.  Let your tree topper be the “star” of the tree.  Look for a unique abstract or geometrical Christmas tree topper. A faux fur tree skirt will add a bit of modern elegance to complete the decorated modern Christmas tree.

You may prefer to decorate in the Farmhouse style.

For the rustic, farmhouse Christmas tree, I would choose either a real or artificial Christmas tree that is natural looking and has fullness.  Decorate the farmhouse tree with Christmas ornaments made of pine cones, berries, and wood. Choose decorations in white, red, green, and brown farmhouse hues. Handmade decorations would be perfect on a Farmhouse decorated Christmas tree. Plaid ribbons add warmth and complement the colors listed above.  A burlap or quilted tree skirt would add a rustic texture to the farmhouse Christmas tree.  Finish off your Farmhouse Christmas tree with a wooden angel or star.

Of course, the most common style of Christmas tree decorating is the Traditional style.

For this classic Christmas tree, look for a dark green full tree.  The Christmas tree can be real or artificial, whichever you prefer.  Make sure the tree branches are evenly spaced apart.  Decorate with the timeless traditional Christmas colors of red, green, and gold.  Add soft white lights to create some coziness to the traditional Christmas tree. Use classic Christmas ornaments made from glass and ceramic.  Beaded or popcorn garland, wide ribbons, and bows are classic traditional home Christmas decorations. A shiny lit-up star or angel would complete an elegant traditional Christmas tree.

How To Decorate Your Christmas Tree With Your Favorite Colors.

Is your favorite color Blue?

Blue was a very popular color in the Victorian era, giving a soothing effect.  Imagine how elegant your Christmas tree would look if you decorated it with blue and silver ornaments.  These blue Christmas balls would be beautiful on either a white or green Christmas tree. You can stick with the same shade of blue throughout your decorations or incorporate light blue, navy blue, and turquoise ornaments into the decor. Start by adding white or blue Christmas lights to the Christmas tree.  Next, add blue, silver, and white ornaments, such as snowflakes, feathers, balls, and floral picks. Also, ribbons and bows will add dimension to the tree.  A lit-up angel at the top of the blue-themed Christmas tree would be beautiful. Finish the tree decor with a soft faux fur or metallic tree skirt.  Now, start wrapping the gifts.

Maybe you love the color Pink.

Did you ever think about having a pink Christmas tree?  Pink, like red, is known to represent love and sentiment, so it’s only fitting to have a pink Christmas tree.  Either a white or green Christmas tree would dazzle with shades of pink, white, gold, and silver decorations.  Blush ornaments like pink flamingos or pink ballet slippers would add interest to the tree.  Mix and match matte and shiny hot pink ornaments with some pink glitter and sequin decorations, and add pink glass ornaments to your Christmas tree for a touch of elegance. Add white or pink Christmas tree lights.  Make a beautiful bow with pink ribbons for your Christmas tree topper.  Turn a plain white or silver tree skirt into something fun and flirty by adding a pink ballet tutu for some dimension.  Now, you have a unique pink Christmas tree skirt

Nothing is more glamorous than a Gold Christmas tree.

You could use shades of gold or add complementary colors like white, cream, rose gold and silver to your gold Christmas tree decor.  Maybe you would prefer to have an all-metallic Christmas tree and add bronze and copper ornaments as well.  Use silver tinsel or garland if you want to add extra sparkle to your Christmas tree.  If you want to do something different for your Christmas tree topper, make a large bow with metallic ribbons and streamers and place it on top of the tree.  Now we are talking glam!

Decorate Your Christmas Tree With A Theme That Resonates With You.

Disney:  Who doesn’t like Mickey and Minnie Mouse?

I love Disney!  Every year, I decorate a Disney Christmas tree with all of my favorite Disney characters.  I think a green Christmas tree, either real or artificial, shows off the colorful Disney ornaments beautifully.  String either bright white or colored lights all around and throughout the Christmas tree.  This will really make your Disney ornaments stand out.  Place anything and everything that reminds you of Disney on the Christmas tree.  You can stick with the Mickey and Minnie Mouse theme or a Disney movie or combine all of your Disney favorite ornaments together. Weave Disney-themed ribbons or multicolored ribbons throughout your Christmas tree for added dimension.  For your Christmas tree topper, place a stuffed Disney character or a statue of Cinderella’s Castle securely at the top of the tree.  Now, the holiday season is sure to be magical!

Coastal: Are you going to have a white Christmas but would rather be at the beach?

Why not bring the beach to you with a coastal Christmas tree? For the beach-themed Christmas tree, use light blue, green, aqua, white and beige ornaments to represent the colors of the water and sand.  That would be a very calming, beachy color palette.  Find coastal ornaments like seashells, starfish, jellyfish, turtles, and beach chairs.  I would use twinkling white or multi-colored lights to make the Christmas tree more festive. For a coastal Christmas tree skirt, I recommend a soft tree skirt in your color scheme or use a large beach towel and create your tree skirt.   A tree-topper made from seashells would put the final touch on your coastal Christmas tree.

Memories: One of my favorite Christmas trees to decorate is a personalized kid’s Christmas tree.

Even though my kids live on their own, I decorate a Christmas tree every year with ornaments and decorations that are unique to my kids.  I have the Christmas tree ornaments I gave them from Baby’s First Christmas to their ages now.  Pick custom Christmas ornaments that represent your kids.  For instance, find a guitar or piano ornament if they play a musical instrument.  Do they have a place they like to visit or a sport they play? I even put their homemade Christmas ornaments from grade school on the tree. Place the kid’s photos in cute frames that hang on the Christmas tree. Shopping for these personalized family ornaments is fun but even more fun to unwrap and put on the family Christmas tree every year.   Nothing says holidays more than sharing memories with family and friends.

I hope that this Christmas tree post inspires you to put your personal creative style on your tree this year. Have fun decorating for the holidays! This post was filled with creative ideas for adding your unique style to your Christmas tree decorating.
